The day was filled with local contractors, consultants, and agency representatives answering questions for 456 attendees about available resources to achieve land management goals.
The day included exhibitors, talks, demonstrations, and great door prizes.

Landowner Workshop: “Making Your Forest Land Work for You”

The Nature Conservancy, Longleaf Alliance, and Georgia Forestry Commission collaborated to host a “Making Your Forest Land Work For You” landowner workshop at the Chamber of Commerce building in Talbotton, Ga., on June 7th.
New landowners, landowners just beginning to think about land management, underserved landowners, and landowners with heirs property concerns are attended.
Information included forest management basics, an introduction to local resource people who can provide land management advice, different ways to make money from your forested land, and details about cost share programs landowners can apply to that will help pay for land management activities.
Staff from The Georgia Heirs Property Law Center and McIntosh S.E.E.D. programs were also on the agenda and provide information about clearing title to land enabling landowners to access cost share programs along with estate planning and the transfer of generational wealth.

Funding Available for Prescribed Fire on Private Property

A group of private land owners learned more about opportunities for partial funding of prescribed fire projects. A live demonstration was provided of how drones are being used for burns.
Institute for Georgia Environmental Leadership (IGEL)

The IGEL Class of 2022 visited Columbus, Fort Moore, Buena Vista, and the Chattahoochee Fall Line Wildlife Management Area to experience and learn more about the ecology and economy of the region. The goal of the IGEL program is to build and sustain a diverse network of environmentally educated leaders in the state of Georgia. This mural in Buena Vista, Ga., celebrates the Longleaf Pine ecosystem.

Nature Now Film Festival

Festival participants enjoyed viewing the Sentinel Landscape film and talking with representatives from Fort Moore and The Nature Conservancy about local efforts to restore the longleaf pine ecosystem on and around Fort Moore.

More than 300 people braved the summer heat and attended the first Forestry and Wildlife Expo in Buena Vista. Participants visited with a variety of exhibitors, contractors, and agency representatives who provided information to help landowners achieve their land management objectives.

Groundcover Field Day

Nearly 40 private landowners, conservation professionals, and agency personnel toured Sehoy – Enon Plantation and saw first-hand how prescribed fire along with other management techniques produce robust groundcover creating high-quality habitat for species ranging from bobwhite quail and deer to red-cockaded woodpeckers.
