A group of private land owners learned more about opportunities for partial funding of prescribed fire projects. A live demonstration was provided of how drones are being used for burns.

Private landowners and interested parties gathered for an informational session regarding partial funding opportunities for private landowners with regard to prescribed fire. There also was a live demonstration of using a drone for burns.

The IGEL Class of 2022 visited Columbus, Fort Moore, Buena Vista, and the Chattahoochee Fall Line Wildlife Management Area to experience and learn more about the ecology and economy of the region. The goal of the IGEL program is to build and sustain a diverse network of environmentally educated leaders in the state of Georgia. This mural in Buena Vista, Ga., celebrates the Longleaf Pine ecosystem.

More than 300 people braved the summer heat and attended the first Forestry and Wildlife Expo in Buena Vista. Participants visited with a variety of exhibitors, contractors, and agency representatives who provided information to help landowners achieve their land management objectives.

Nearly 40 private landowners, conservation professionals, and agency personnel toured Sehoy – Enon Plantation and saw first-hand how prescribed fire along with other management techniques produce robust groundcover creating high-quality habitat for species ranging from bobwhite quail and deer to red-cockaded woodpeckers.
